A RESOLUTION COMMENDING J.L. HOLLOWAY UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI BUSINESS HALL OF FAME.

WHEREAS, J.L. Holloway, chairman and chief executive officer of Jackson-based Friede Goldman International, Inc., was recently selected for induction into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, J.L. Holloway was chosen not only because of his accomplishments in the business world, but also because of his contributions to his community and state; and

WHEREAS, he joins other laureates who have been inducted into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame since its founding in 1989 by Junior Achievement of Mississippi and its co-sponsor, The Clarion-Ledger; and

WHEREAS, a 17-person selection committee, composed of business leaders and educators from across the state, chose Holloway from over 100 nominations submitted statewide; and

WHEREAS, J.L. Holloway heads up Friede Goldman, Inc., which is a leading provider of off-shore drilling services, including design, engineering, construction and retrofitting; and

WHEREAS, reared in Prentiss, Mississippi, J.L. Holloway studied accounting at the University of Mississippi, and founded HAM Marine, Inc., in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in 1982, which was the foundation of what became Friede Goldman, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Friede Goldman, Inc., which currently employs about 4,200 people, went public in 1997, and its stock was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1998; and

WHEREAS, J.L. Holloway serves on a number of boards and is active in charitable and educational advisory roles; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend and recognize the exemplary service of its citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend J.L. Holloway upon his induction into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to J.L. Holloway and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
